Satellite radio now on the iPhone with the Sirius XM SkyDock

Sirius introduced on Wednesday the XM SkyDock, a standalone satellite radio receiver that connects to your iPhone or iPod touch. The XM SkyDock is not the best looking iPhone accessory out there, but it’s the only one to let you listen to your favorite satellite radio stations.

The Sirius XM SkyDock is one of the first accessories to take advantage of the iPhone OS 3.0 new hardware support, introduced in June. The dock has a flexible stalk and plugs in to your car’s DC jack and uses a free companion application on the iPhone to control the radio stations.

The companion iPhone app also lets you tags songs on the satellite radio music channels for later purchase from the itunes Store. An Aux In cable comes in the box for audio connection to your car.

The Sirius XM SkyDock won’t be available until later this fall (an exact relase date was not specified) but we know it will cost $120. The dock will be compatible with all iPhone and iPod touch models, given that they run on the 3.0 software.

Reclaim your desk space with a BookArc MacBook stand

The search for the ideal accessory to keep your desk clutter-free and gain a few extra inches of space ends here. The BookArc from Twelve South transforms your MacBook into an ultra thin desktop computer, and looks very good too.

The BookArc is actually a heavy gauge steel stand, keeping your laptop in place with a soft silicone cushion. It comes with three different silicone cushions, so the stand can accommodate most MacBook models (from MacBook Air to 17-inch MacBook Pro). The stand holds a closed laptop in vertical position, and also features silicone footpads to protect the surface of your desk.

Twelve South’s BookArc stand has a rather compact footprint, measuring 10.1 by 4.5 inches. The MacBooks used with the stand can then operate with the lid closed, given that an external monitor, keyboard and mouse are attached.

Twelve South says that when using the BookArc, the Macbook will automatically dedicate 100% of it video memory to the external display (instead of splitting with the built-in display), resulting in a noticeable speed increase in applications such as Adobe Photosop or Apple Aperture.

The BookArc retails for $50 and is available from Apple Stores and from the manufacturer’s website. Design studios or Mac-based offices might want to look into the “six-pack” BookArc offer, coming at a bundled discount price of $250.
